Volunteers of the Week

The Kenney Community Center would like to recognize the Union College Emergency Medical Service as this week’s Volunteers of the Week.

UCEMS is a volunteer organization that provides treatment for the sick and injured members of the campus community. The members are full-time students at Union studying a variety of different majors.

UCEMS provides emergency medical coverage for the campus community from 8 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Sunday, as well as for many campus events like Commencement and some sporting events. Two emergency medical technicians are on duty at all times, and respond in a designated "fly-car" to respond quickly anywhere on campus.

In order to become an EMT, members must complete a 160 hour course, spend 10 hours riding along in an ambulance, and pass both a practical skills exam, and a state written exam in order to receive certification. The group also plans events for the campus, including their most significant, College EMS Week. The organization currently has 27 members, and has been serving the Union community since 1996.
