Bringing haiku to campus
Union College will host the 2015 Haiku North America Conference.
The event will feature workshops and performances from over 100 haiku poets, editors and publishers Oct. 15 - 17. Hilary Tann, the John Howard Payne Professor of Music and chair of the department, was instrumental in bringing the conference to the College.
Public events on campus will include a lecture by poet Red Pine on China’s Hermit Tradition, as well as an exhibition of haiga – calligraphic images of haiku. Other conference-related activities will be held at various locations.
Traditionally, the conference is a celebration of haiku poetry, autumn beauty and artistic camaraderie. Registration for the full event is still open. Day registration is also available, and those who are curious about the culture and content of Haiku North America are welcome to drop in on certain events. The event also coincides with the current exhibition at the Mandeville Gallery.
