Pianist Yefim Bronfman returns to campus



Esteemed pianist Yefim Bronfman performs on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Chapel.

The Union College Concert Series welcomes back pianist Yefim Bronfman offering a program of compositions by Prokofiev and Schumann including; Prokofiev’s Sonata No. 1 in F Minor, Op. 1, Sonata No. 4 in C Minor, Op. 29, Sonata No. 3 in A Minor, Op. 28, Sonata No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 14, and Schumann’s Faschingsschwank aus Wien and Arabeske in C Major, Op. 18. 

Yefim Bronfman’s commanding technique and lyrical gifts have won him acclaim and enthusiastic audiences worldwide, whether for his solo recitals, his prestigious orchestral engagements or his rapidly growing catalogue of recordings. Renowned for his interpretations of Prokofiev, Bronfman performs the complete sonata cycle of that composer in Carnegie Hall and at other major venues around the world. He won a Grammy Award for his recording of the Bartok concerti with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Esa-Pekka Salonen and has been nominated for two others.

Last season included performances with the symphonies of Chicago (with whom he also appeared in Carnegie Hall), St. Louis, San Francisco, Dallas, Seattle, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, New World Symphony, Metropolitan Orchestra and the New York and Los Angeles philharmonics. 

Continuing his commitment to contemporary composers, he performed the world premiere of a concerto written for him by Jörg Widmann with the Berlin Philharmonic in December. With the Cleveland Orchestra and Franz Welser-Möst, he played and recorded both Brahms concerti, repertoire he will also take to Milan’s La Scala with Valery Gergiev.
