Campus events scheduled for Black History Month


Union College will observe Black History Month with a host of events throughout February. They are as follows: 

Monday, Feb. 1 - Taylor Time featuring Jacqueline Tyo and Friends

The group's performance, "I’ve Been to the Mountaintop: Songs and Stories,” starts at 5 p.m. in Emerson Auditorium. 

Saturday, Feb. 6 - Opening Reception with the Black Student Union 

Breazzano House 3 to 4p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 10 - Documentary film screening, "The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution" 

Discussion by Deidre Hill-Butler, director of the Africana Studies program, in Reamer Campus Center auditorium at 5 p.m. 

Thursday, Feb. 11 - "Colors of the Wind: A Spoken Word Event"

Hosted by Lambda Pi Chi and Women's Union in Breazzano House at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, Feb. 18 - "Wha de Wata Bring: Gullah/Geechee Cultural Continuation and Environmental Preservation" 

Queen Quet Marquetta L. Goodwine will present a histo-musical presentation as part of the Kelly Adirondack Center's "Young Leaders, Diversity and the Environment" lecture series 

5:30 p.m. in the Nott Memorial 

Friday, Feb. 19 - "Poetry Coffee House" with Black Student Union

Old Chapel from 7 to 10:30 p.m. 

Saturday, Feb. 20 - Heavenly Voices Gospel Choir performance

5 p.m. in Old Chapel 

Thursday, Feb. 25 - Lip Sync Battle with Black Student Union

Karp 005 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
