Valerie Barr, professor of computer science, and Jessica Sanford ’16 attended a one-day summit at Google headquarters in Mountain View, Calif. on the retention of women in computer science. 

Sharmeen Azher ’17 was awarded the 2016 Marianna McJimsey Award by the ASIANEtwork for the best undergraduate student paper dealing with Asia. Her paper was titled, “The Survival of Barefoot College Affiliated Dais (Traditional Midwives) Despite Modernizing Government Interventions.” She will be honored at the group’s annual conference in St. Petersburg, Fla. in March. 

Brent Shapiro-Albert ’16 was awarded the Chambliss Astronomy Achievement Award for his work and poster at the American Astronomical Society meeting. The honor is used to recognize students’ exemplary research by undergraduate and graduate students. Learn more about the Chambliss medal here
