Dover String Quartet to make Chamber Concert Series debut

An emerging string quartet with a renowned clarinetist will perform on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. in Memorial Chapel.

The Series welcomes the Dover Quartet for its series debut with NY Philharmonic principal clarinetist Anthony McGill in a program of Mozart’s Quartet in B‑flat Major, K. 458, Hunt, Dutilleux’s Ainsi la nuit, and Brahms’s Clarinet Quintet in B Minor, Op. 115

The Dover Quartet catapulted to international stardom following a stunning sweep of the 2013 Banff International String Quartet Competition. In 2013-14, the quartet became the first-ever quartet-in-residence for the Curtis Institute. Last season, the quartet performed more than 100 concerts throughout the U.S., Canada, South America, and Europe. The Dover Quartet draws from the musical lineage of the Cleveland, Vermeer, and Guarneri quartets, having studied at the Curtis Institute and Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, where they were in residence from 2011-2013.

Recognized as one of the classical music world’s finest solo, chamber and orchestral musicians, Anthony McGill was named principal clarinet of the New York Philharmonic in 2014. He previously served as principal clarinet of the Metropolitan Opera and associate principal clarinet of the Cincinnati Symphony. McGill has appeared as soloist with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, American Symphony Orchestra and the New York String Orchestra, all at Carnegie Hall. He had the honor of performing at the inauguration of President Barack Obama with Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma and Gabriela Montero. A graduate of the Curtis Institute, Anthony McGill serves on the faculties of the Juilliard School, Peabody Institute, Bard College Conservatory of Music and Manhattan School of Music.
