Ebene String Quartet returns to College Concert Series

The Ebene String Quartet, a prominent French group, will return to Union Thursday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Chapel.

The Union College Concert Series welcomes back the exhilarating Ebène String Quartet in a program of Haydn’s Quartet in C Major, Hob. III:32, Debussy’s Quartet in G Minor, Op. 10, and Beethoven’s Quartet in C-sharp Minor, Op. 131. This performance closes the series’ 3-concert festival of young international string quartets.

From “promising young ensemble”, the Ebène Quartet has grown to become one of today’s foremost quartets on the international scene. The Ebène Quartet has studied extensively with the Ysaÿe Quartet in Paris as well as with the eminent Gábor Takács, Eberhard Feltz, and György Kurtág. Since its dramatic 2004 triumph at the prestigious ARD international competition in Munich, where the quartet was also awarded five additional special prizes, the Ebènes have gone on to win the Forberg-Schneider Foundation’s Belmont Prize in 2005.

This season, the quartet will perform in London’s Wigmore Hall, the LG Arts Center in Seoul, at the Berlin Philharmonic, and in New York’s Carnegie, to name just as few. An additional highlight of the season will be their three-part concert cycle in Brussels.

Individual tickets are $25 or $10 for students. Subscription packages offer significant savings. For information, call (518) 388-6080 or visit http://www.unioncollegeconcerts.org.
