Artemis Quartet returns to the Chamber Concert Series

artemis quartet

The Artemis Quartet performs on Sunday, April 10 at 3 p.m. in Memorial Chapel.

The Series welcomes the Artemis String Quartet offering a program of Mozart’s Quartet in G Major, K. 387, Shostakovich’s Quartet No. 5 in B-flat Major, Op. 92, and Beethoven’s Quartet in F Major, Op. 59, No. 1, Razumovsky.

The Berlin-based Artemis Quartet was founded in 1989 at the Musikhochschule Lübeck, and is recognized as one of the foremost quartets in the world. Since its successful debut at the Berlin Philharmonie in 1999, the quartet has performed in all the great music centers and international festivals in Europe, the USA, Japan, South America and Australia.

A focus on contemporary music is an important part of the ensemble’s work, in part because they wish to keep developing an eye for new elements in already well-established music. Composers such as Mauricio Sotelo (2004), Jörg Widmann (2006), Thomas Larcher (2008), and Daniel Schnyder (2014) have written pieces for the Artemis Quartet. In addition to their concert careers, the four musicians are professors at the Universität der Künste in Berlin and at the Chapelle de la Reine Elisabeth in Brussels.

Individual tickets are $25 or $10 for students. Subscription packages offer significant savings. For information, call (518) 388-6080 or click here
