The Department of Theatre and Dance will perform "Antigonick" Feb. 1-4 as its second show in the “Season of Discontent.”

“Antigonick” is poet Anne Carson’s modern remake of Sophocles’ “Antigone.” Sophocles’ tale of one woman’s refusal to bend to power on a matter of principle resonates in times of oppression.

“As a department, we felt compelled to respond to the unrest in our nation and the world and chose a season of plays with viewpoints from historical and modern perspectives on issues such as the ravages of war, oppression, power of the elite, government corruption, morality and personal responsibility,” said Patricia Culbert, senior artist-in-residence.

The cast includes: Sophie Hurwitz ’21; Aly Silbey ’20; Etienne Giannelli ’20; Anat Tewari ’19; John Jiang ’21; Dan Gottlieb ’19; Abigail Lehner ’18; Steve Camarra ’20; and Jay Isaacs ’19.

Performances, held in Yulman Theater, are at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1 to Saturday, Feb. 3 and 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 4. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $7 with a Union ID, alumni or senior citizens. Please note that Thursday night’s performance has already sold out.
