George Shaw, professor emeritus of geology, is co-author of a recent book published by Springer. “Navigating the Energy Maze: The Transition to a Sustainable Future” provides specific policy proposals designed to move the U.S. to a low-carbon energy system.

Deidre Hill Butler, associate professor of sociology, was honored this week with the YWCA Women of Achievement Award at the group’s 35th annual Women of Achievement Celebration and Fundraiser at the Glen Sanders Mansion in Scotia.

Lewis Davis, professor of economics, and Astghik Mavisakalyan, senior research fellow at Curtin University, published an editorial on the economic and social impact of gendered language. The editorial argues that speaking a gendered language increases discrimination against women and gender inequality. It was published on International Women's Day and is available here. Also, Davis and Jia Gao, visiting assistant professor of economics, recently completed a report studying the economic impact of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's proposal to tax prescription opioids.
