Union Peace Corps volunteers highly ranked

The Peace Corps recently ranked Union No. 22 among small schools on its 2018 Top Volunteer-Producing Colleges and Universities list.

There are 10 Union alumni currently volunteering worldwide in a number of capacities. Among those serving is Anna McGillicuddy ’15, a youth-in-development volunteer in Thailand.

“Union approaches education from many fronts by understanding that a classroom can only offer so much,” said McGillicuddy, who majored in psychology and was a member of the national honor societies in psychology and French.

“Students are encouraged to work in the community, join clubs, go on terms abroad and gain hands-on experience by doing research with professors. This exploration of other knowledge, people, cultures and countries becomes a part of you, and the Peace Corps provides an experience in which you can dive even deeper into each of these things,” she said.

Other Union volunteers are based in Benin, Ghana, Malawi, Morocco, Namibia and Senegal.

The Peace Corps bases its ranking of top volunteer-producing institutions on the size of the student body. View the complete rankings in each category here
