Early Music Ensemble to perform ReUnion weekend

Emerson Auditorium

As a part of ReUnion Weekend festivities, the Early Music Ensemble, directed by Dianne McMullen, professor of music and college organist, will perform a concert of Baroque and Viennese music on Saturday, May 19, at 2 p.m. in Emerson Auditorium at Taylor Music Center.

The program includes recently discovered music from the 17th and early 19th centuries. One of these is a virtuosic work for three solo violins and basso continuo by Andreas Uswaldt, a composer who is stylistically a predecessor to Johann Sebastian Bach. Another newly-discovered composition is for solo flute and solo clarinet by Kaspar Kummer, who worked at the court of the Duke of Saxe-Coburg in the 19th century. Also on the program is a work for two flutes, two violins, and basso continuo by Alessandro Scarlatti.

The concert is free and open to the public with a reception following the performance.
