This week's news from faculty, staff and students.
Catherine Walker, visiting assistant professor of psychology, led a workshop at the 2019 International Conference on Eating Disorders. The workshop was titled “Incorporating Varied Exposures into Eating Disorder Treatment: From Research to Practice.” Also at the conference, Michael Stalteri ’19 presented a poster based on his research practicum and summer research project. The Union group also presented a poster with research from Jihyeon Jung ’20, Emily Erlich ’19, Meichai Chen ’20 and Julia Brooks ’17.
An article by Stephen Schmidt, professor of economics, will be published in Theoria, a journal of philosophy. “Resources and the Acceptability of the Repugnant Conclusion” is an outgrowth of the work Schmidt did to develop his Economics and Philosophy course as a Nichols Fellow.

A group from the Union community attended the 54th Annual Northeastern Geologic Society of America meeting in Portland, Maine. Alaina Chormann ‘20, Hayley Bennett ‘19, Matthew Cole ‘19, Heidi O'Hora ‘19, Rebecca Lippitt ‘19, Annika Wells ’19, Sophia Bute ’19, Elizabeth Andonie ‘19 and Kaitlyn Suarez ‘16 all presented posters. Kurt Hollocher, the John and Jane Wold Professor of Geology, and Donald Rodbell, professor of geology, presented their research. David Gillikin, professor of geology, Matthew Manon, geology lecturer, and Elizabeth Cilia ’19 also attended and co-authored several posters. Gillikin and Hollocher were elected fellows of the Geological Society of America.
Sheri Lullo, assistant professor of art history, presented a paper at the annual meeting of the Association for Asian Studies in Denver. “The Idol: Ritual Dimensions of a Chinese Stone Lion Across Time and Space,” focused on Union’s own Idol statue and was part of a panel that explored agency, objects and cross-cultural exchange in Chinese archaeology.
