Union Where You Are: Plans for 2020-21

Updates on emocha App, Travel Advisory and Visitors

Publication Date

Dear Union College Community,

It has been great to see many of you out and about on campus enjoying the beautiful weather we’ve been having. While we continue to update the Union Where You Are website with information for our community, we wanted to share a few specific items with you today.

emocha App and Web Portal Updates

There have been updates to the emocha app and web portal. Please update the emocha app through the App Store or Google Play to see the changes on the app. The web portal changes will happen automatically. If you have any questions regarding the update to the app, please call emocha at (240)343-9222 for support. Starting today:

  • You will no longer need to enter a code to access the health screening questions on the web portal.

  • There are updated links to Terms of Service.

  • When reporting a positive COVID-19 test, users will now be able to select the date of that positive test result using a calendar date picker.

    • Badges are marked yellow for 10 full days following the report of a COVID-19 positive test result.

    • As a reminder, using the new date picker requires an app update.

Travel Advisory

As a reminder, New York State (NYS) has issued a travel advisory for anyone entering the state from states or territories that are experiencing recent, significant, community-wide spread of COVID-19. For a list of states and territories that meet the criteria for required quarantine due to significant community transmission, visit https://ny.gov/states. The states on this list change frequently.

  • Employees - The College continues to limit all non-essential business travel. Please secure approval from your supervisor (staff) or the Dean of Academic Departments and Programs (faculty) before making business travel plans. If you are considering travel for personal reasons, you will need to adhere to CDC, state and local health department guidelines for traveling and isolation requirements after travel.

  • Students are strongly encouraged to stay locally throughout the duration of the term. If students need to travel outside of the area for any reason, they will be required to report any travel to a restricted state on the NYS COVID-19 Travel Advisory and any international travel using this form.

    • Students required to quarantine due to travel within the term will be responsible for their own accommodations off campus.

Compliance with NYS guidance and Union College protocols is critical for the health and safety of all members of our community. Failure to report any restricted travel would be considered a violation of the College's health and safety protocols and may lead to disciplinary action, up to and including suspension or separation from the College.

Visitor Policy

As a reminder, while visitors can enjoy the outdoor spaces on our campus, access inside buildings is restricted to current students, faculty, staff and designated visitors only. Designated visitors include contractors and service and maintenance vendors. Additionally, Admissions will be holding limited tours for prospective students and families. All visitors must follow health and safety protocols and all designated visitors must have prior written approval and follow additional requirements before accessing campus.

Thank you for your continued commitment to the health and safety of our community.

Best regards,

Fran’Cee Brown-McClure, Ph.D., VP for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
Michele Gibson, VP for Administration and Finance
Strom Thacker, Dean of Faculty and VP for Academic Affairs
