Welcome back to campus. As you have seen in the media, New York State has entered phase 1B in the COVID-19 vaccine distribution program. As of this morning, the state has added “in-person college instructors” to the list of populations who are eligible for vaccination beginning today. The Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (CICU), our advocacy partner in New York State, has shared the following guidance:
- Faculty teaching in person should complete this screening form. Note that the form includes a number of questions about employment and in-person college instructor is not currently listed but according to the Governor’s Office will be added imminently. Once that category is added, eligible faculty will be able to complete the form and schedule a vaccine.
- Please note: while in-person faculty are now eligible to make a reservation for vaccination, demand for vaccines still far outpaces the state’s supply.
- We will continue to press for the inclusion of other campus populations including staff and students.
- The other categories of campus faculty/staff/students that we have previously confirmed to be eligible to be vaccinated remain eligible (campus safety, student health employees in patient-facing roles, employees administering COVID-19 tests, students on clinical rotations with patient-facing roles, and anyone who volunteers to administer COVID-19 vaccines).
We are pleased to report that several employees on our campus who qualified for phase 1A have already completed the first dose of the vaccine. We are working closely with Schenectady County Public Health Services to ensure that as groups qualify for the vaccine we are able to share that opportunity with them.
We will continue to provide more information on the vaccine as we have it. Note as federal, state and county guidance changes--as it has done so frequently and without warning--we will continue to provide you with feedback.
