COVID-19 Updates

Off Campus Travel Restrictions Eased

Publication Date

Dear students,

It’s been just under a week since we eased a number of our campus quarantine restrictions and we’re pleased to report that our trend for COVID-19 test results continues to improve. This week we have seen fewer new cases and the capital region has also seen an improvement in its 7-day positivity rate.

Effective immediately, we will further reduce the restrictions regarding leaving campus. We continue to strongly discourage you from leaving campus for any unnecessary reason. However, you no longer need to ask permission to leave campus provided that all health and safety protocols, including wearing a mask, social distancing, and handwashing are followed.

It is important to note that many of the cases we’ve had on campus are a result of travel off campus, including visiting friends and family outside of our Union community, spending time inside restaurants and bars and frequenting off-campus fitness centers. As you determine what activities may take you off campus (hair cut, hiking, skiing, grocery shopping), we ask that you consider that each time we leave our “bubble” and return we run the risk of introducing additional exposure to our campus community. Trust and compliance are key to keeping us together on campus this term.

We will continue to monitor our cases on campus and the positivity rate in our region and make adjustments to campus guidelines as necessary. Thank you in advance for doing your part to keep our community safe.

Be well,

Dean Fran’Cee
