COVID-19 Updates

COVID-19 Updates - December 30, 2021

Publication Date

Dear Union College Community,

Testing remains a critical tool in the College’s COVID-19 response plan. As such, regular testing will be required for all students and employees throughout the winter term.

On-campus testing will be available during the winter term starting with Week 1, during which time classes will be held online and most students and employees will not be on campus. All testing will be held at Old Chapel (enter)/Hale House (exit).

Please do not park in the traffic circle at the end of Library Lane while getting tested. There are a limited number of parking spaces along Library Lane. Otherwise, those getting tested should park in a designated space on campus and walk to the testing center.

  • Week 1: All employees will be required to test once during the week - either on-campus or off-campus. PCR or rapid testing is acceptable. Those who test negative through an off-campus test do not need to submit their results to the College. If you test positive off-campus, please contact Gwen Pulvirent in HR at pulvireg@union.edu and your supervisor.
    • Dates and times for on-campus testing:
      • Monday, Jan. 3: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m
      • Thursday, Jan. 6: 9 a.m. - noon and 1 - 4 p.m.
  • Week 2: All students and employees will be required to test twice this week: Once between Jan. 9 – 11 (Sunday-Tuesday) and again on Jan. 13-14 (Thursday-Friday).
    • Testing times:
      • Jan. 9: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
      • Jan. 10, 11, 13, 14: 9 a.m. – noon and 1 – 4 p.m.
  • Week 3 and beyond: Testing will be held each Tuesday and Wednesday for the remainder of the winter term. Testing hours are 9 a.m. - noon and 1 - 4 p.m.

Isolation and quarantine rules remain the same
Throughout the pandemic, the College has followed the guidance set by local, state and federal health agencies as it pertains to isolation and quarantine for COVID-19 positive individuals and their close contacts. We are aware of the latest guidance issued this week by the Centers for Disease Control that reduces the length of time asymptomatic COVID-19 positive individuals should isolate, but that guidance has not yet been codified by New York State or Schenectady County Department of Health.

As such, Union’s protocols for isolation remain unchanged. COVID-19 positive individuals need to isolate for 10 days from the onset of symptoms or their positive test date if asymptomatic. Isolation and quarantine protocols can be found on our COVID-19 website. Should the College receive updated guidance from the county, we will inform you in a timely manner.

New Athletics spectator rules announced
In order to comply with New York State health safety guidelines, the College will now require all spectators for indoor events age 12 and older to provide proof of full vaccination upon entry to the venue. Children ages 5-11 will be required to show proof of at least one vaccination dose. All spectators also will be required to wear a mask while at the event. Full details of the spectator policy can be found on the Union Athletics website.

As always, we will continue to provide updated information as we have it. Additionally, the latest information, including updated FAQs, can be found on our COVID-19 website. You also can view President Harris’ message to the community from Dec. 21 that details our decision regarding the start of winter term.
