COVID-19 Updates

Masking and Testing Clarification

Publication Date

Dear Union College Community:

We are reaching out to respond to some questions we have received regarding the rules for mask usage on campus as we return to in-person classes tomorrow. Here are the current rules regarding mask usage:

  • Disposable surgical masks or other medical masks such as N95, KN95 or KF94 masks are now required.
  • Cloth masks are no longer allowed, unless worn together with a surgical mask.
  • A single surgical mask is permissible.
  • Masks must be worn over the nose and mouth at all times and should fit snugly on your face.

Given that the omicron variant of COVID-19 is highly contagious, adherence to mask-wearing rules is essential to safeguard the health of our community. In addition to the rules above please minimize the amount of time your mask is down while eating and drinking. For a reminder as to where masks must be worn, see our Health and Safety Protocols page.

Testing clarification
All students must get tested twice this week (Week 2) and next week (Week 3). Faculty and staff who will work completely or mostly on campus this week and/or next week must get tested twice each week.

If you are working completely or mostly remotely this week or next week you should not come to campus for the sole purpose of testing. If you come to campus for short periods of time and have minimal contact with others while on campus you should not test.

This information, and more, can be found on our COVID-19 website, which is updated regularly.
