“Uh guys, I just won a freaking Emmy!”

So began a recent tweet from Joanna Stern ’06 after the announcement that her documentary, “E-ternal: A Tech Quest to ‘Live’ Forever,” won the Wall Street Journal’s first Emmy.

“E-ternal” explores technologies that are preserving the memories of loved ones for future generations.

“E-ternal” is available here.

As technology reporter for the Journal, Joanna Stern ’06 covers the gadgets and apps that are designed to make our lives less stressful, more efficient and fun. Her stories, columns and videos often take an unorthodox approach to making personal tech informative and useful.

In her video series, “In the Elevator With …,” she did short interviews with CEOs of tech companies with products ranging from food delivery to flying cars to vacuum cleaners.

She is a CNBC contributor and often appears on national television and radio. Before joining the Journal in 2013, she was the technology editor at ABC News and before that a reviewer and editor at The Verge.

Among her other honors over her nearly two decades in journalism, she received the 2016 Loeb Award in video for her out-of-the-box but always informative short films.

As a Union student, she was a political science major and editor-in-chief of Concordiensis, the student newspaper. She also served as an intern at the Albany Times Union.

Last February, Stern reflected on Union’s impact on her career when she delivered an address at the College’s Founders Day convocation.
