The Division of IT Service, Enterprise Application Services is seeking a Senior Solution Specialist for Academic Administration, reporting to the Solution Manager, Academic Administration. S/he will act as a subject matter expert for the systems and related services used at UAlbany that enable enrollment and academic administrative business processes.  This position is responsible for employing technical and functional skills and experience to ensure the reliability, availability and maintainability of one or more complex business critical systems. The Senior Solution Specialist leads the design and is responsible for the build/configuration and operational maintenance of systems in this portfolio.


  • Facilitate users and supporting team members for all applications within scope through the entire solution life-cycle:
    •     Strategy - Design - Transition - Operation - Continuous Improvement
  • Lead day-to-day applications support including quality control activities, data management, integration, and subject matter expertise to interested internal and external resources on functionality and integration
  • Manage queue of service requests, incidents, and problems for applications within scope (service offering operation)
  • Build solutions focusing on services to be consumed across the university-wide portfolio of applications including:
    •     Knowledge of data for analytics and business intelligence/data warehousing integration
    •     "How-to" training on the use of the applications within varying business processes
  • Document and maintain the business processes and functional design of applications to ensure alignment with requirements and continuous improvement
  • Manage customizations and configurations for ensuring propagation to upgraded environments.  This may include standard version controlling or unique configurations within specific applications.
  • Be the campus subject matter expert of a certain scope of applications by being active in vendor and user group communities inside and outside of the University, SUNY, and the market by presenting at and actively sharing information at conferences and meetings


Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related area from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization, and four years of applicable programming experience
  • Ability to formulate programming code in more than one programming language
  • Ability to write and review/execute SQL statements and PL/SQL programs
  • Demonstrated experience working with relational databases in SQL Server or Oracle
  • Demonstrated experience with the installation, operation, and integration with academic administration applications within scope or similar applications
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex cross-team applications and integrations
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three years of recent, prior experience in the Higher Education industry
  • Three to five years of development experience in any PeopleSoft Solution
  • Experience working with an Enterprise Content Management System or Document Imaging System
  • Experience working in UNIX/Linux environment
  • Experience developing HTML, XML and XSLT
  • Experience with PeopleSoft's Integration Broker and web service
