Assistant Director Athletic Media Relations

The University at Albany is searching for a qualified applicant to fill the role of Assistant Director for Athletic Media Relations.  This position's duties include, but are not limited to: prepare press releases, game notes, feature articles and media guides for assigned sports; manage social media accounts with implementation and knowledge of latest trends and practices; develop and maintain good working relationships with staff, coaches and student athletes; maintain department archival records and statistical files; assist with game management duties for home events; publication design and coordination; and assisting in the publicity and promotion of the University's 18 intercollegiate sports.  UAlbany is a NCAA Division I institution that competes in the America East Conference, Women's Golf (MAAC) and Football is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or a related field
  • Minimum two years experience in a Division I athletic media relations capacity
  • Strong organizational and writing skills
  • Expertise and demonstrated ability of website design, computers, statistical software packages, desktop publishing (Adobe InDesign), image acquisition and editing (Photoshop)
  • Stat Crew game experience
  • Applicants must address in their applications their ability to work with culturally diverse populations.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
  • Ability to work independently and able to make tight deadlines

Preferred Qualification:

  • Stat Crew game experience, in the sports of football, basketball, lacrosse, baseball and volleyball
