The Administrative Assistant is responsible for supporting the administrative and clerical needs of the Department of Biological Sciences and related interdisciplinary programs. The selected candidate will be responsible for providing standard administrative support, maintaining a welcoming department office, serving as an information resource for students, faculty, and visitors, overseeing and reconciling department budgets, managing student pre-registration and course scheduling, performing necessary tasks for student evaluations, supporting departmental review committees and job searches, and overseeing work-study student assignments and temporary summer staff. The Administrative Assistant will also be expected to assist with meeting College-wide deadlines and policies, managing and maintaining departmental data, updating the departmental webpage and information boards, scheduling departmental events, and performing other related departmental tasks.
The position requires a high school diploma (Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred), at least three years of related experience, preferably in an educational environment, excellent computer skills, including demonstrated mastery of Microsoft Office, and proficiency with Google Apps and website maintenance software. Candidates must be safety conscious, must display excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be able to work with people of diverse backgrounds, and be flexible and able to learn new things quickly. Knowledge of science terminology as well as experience with financial/room reservation/credit card and other operational systems is a plus.
