The University at Albany seeks a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Admissions Counselor.  The Admissions Counselor supports the efforts of the Admissions Office by managing an assigned territory, acting as a liaison to assigned departments or programs, creating and implementing recruitment strategies, and identifying and enrolling students.

We seek a team member with demonstrated communication skills and enthusiasm to represent the University to prospective students, their families and counselors.    

Core responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement and through use of data, assess recruitment strategies to achieve short-term and long-term recruitment goals
  • Coordinate and travel for 6 - 8 weeks in the fall and 2 - 5 weeks in spring to meet with and present to students and counselors at high schools, community colleges, college fairs and recruitment events  
  • Foster relationships with talented students and develop a strong rapport with school counselors, parents, and alumni throughout the recruitment cycle
  • Leverage social media to connect with students and assist with recruitment
  • Deliver presentations for prospective students and families and participate in recruitment events such as open house
  • Review and evaluate applications to the University
  • Develop familiarity with the major academic offerings and educational opportunities available through the University


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education (DOE) or internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in admissions, sales, customer service, advising, counseling or related field   
  • Demonstrated public speaking ability
  • Organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings
  • Applicants must address in their application their ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
  • Valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong technology skills and experience with Microsoft Office
  • Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) software, such as Slate
  • Familiarity with financial aid process and packages
  • Data analysis experience
  • Bilingual
