Job Description:

The Department of Art and Art History at the University at Albany, SUNY seeks an exceptional artist for Assistant Professor in Painting and Drawing, a tenure track appointment with an anticipated start date of Fall 2017. The person in this position is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to professional growth through exhibitions, research, and creative activity. Preference will be given to the candidate who has a working knowledge of a second field in either 2-D or 3-D media.  

The successful candidate must be able to teach painting and drawing at the undergraduate level and contribute to the reshaping of the Foundations program.  At the graduate level, the successful candidate is expected to engage with MFA and MA students in all media disciplines. Additionally, the individual will assist in administering the newly formed MA program and share in teaching one of the two required master's level seminars. Immediate responsibilities include coordinating and overseeing the graduate teaching assistants in Beginning Drawing or Two Dimensional Design.

The Department seeks a collaborative colleague who will participate in organization, student advising, and service on committees that support the educational mission and initiatives of the Department and the University.


  • MFA in Art or Visual Studies from a university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • A minimum of two years of teaching beyond the graduate experience is required.
  • The successful candidate will have an active program of creative research and a significant exhibition history.
