Assistant Admissions Counselor, University at Albany, Albany, NY

The University at Albany seeks a highly motivated individual to fill the entry-level position of Assistant Admissions Counselor.  The Assistant Admissions Counselor, in close coordination with a senior Admissions Counselor, will support the recruitment efforts of the Admissions Office by independently meeting with students and their families to educate, represent and promote the University at Albany, implementing strategies to identify and enroll qualified students.

We seek a team member with demonstrated communication skills and enthusiasm to represent the University at Albany to prospective students, their family members and high school guidance counselors.    

Core responsibilities:

  • Work with a territory manager to implement strategies to achieve short-term and long-term recruitment goals
  • Work with a territory manager to coordinate and travel for 8 - 10 weeks in the fall and 2 - 5 weeks in the spring. This individual will be expected to meet with and present to prospective students and guidance counselors at high schools, community colleges, college fairs and recruitment events to meet enrollment goals.
  • Develop relationships with talented students, school counselors, parents, and alumni throughout the recruitment cycle
  • Leverage social media to connect with students and assist with recruitment
  • Deliver presentations for prospective students & families and participate in various additional recruitment events such as open house
  • With guidance from a senior Admissions Counselor, review and evaluate applications to the University
  • Develop familiarity with major academic offerings and educational opportunities throughout the University


Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Dept. of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings
  • Applicants must address in their application their ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
  • Organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in admissions, sales, customer service, advising, counseling or related field   
  • Public speaking ability
  • Strong technology skills and experience with Microsoft Office
  • Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) software, such as Slate
  • Familiarity with financial aid process and packages
  • Data analysis experience
  • Bilingual
