Assistant Director, Career Advisor

The Tufts Career Center provides comprehensive career development assistance to undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni from Arts, Sciences and Engineering, and the SMFA at Tufts. We provide individual career advising, drop-in hours, online resources, workshops, graduate school advising, career and internship fairs, networking and presentations with alumni and employers, job and internship search assistance including online listings. We strive to transform students’ lives so that they can have a profound impact on the world. The Tufts Career Center seeks an Assistant Director – Career Advisor to join the professional staff to serve a diverse group of students.

Provide career advising to undergraduate students, grad students, and recent alumni in all phases of their career development. Engage key internal and external constituents, including faculty, parents/families, and alumni, to build support for career success; Design, organize, lead, and evaluate innovative programming to ensure that students and young alumni are prepared for life after Tufts; Represent the Career Center at on-campus and off-campus events as needed; Work collaboratively with staff in program planning and delivery of general career services. 

• Provide individual career advising through in-person, email, phone, and Skype appointments and drop-ins in areas of career exploration and self-assessment, choosing a major, resume creation, professional communication, job and internship searches, offer negotiation, mock interviews, using social media in the job search, and graduate/professional school advising 
• Develop, plan, and manage programs and workshops for students, and coordinate early engagement programming (i.e. 1st and 2nd year career series); Conceptualize and implement interactive programs and networking events focusing on career fields of interest to liberal arts students 
• Conduct outreach to student clubs and organizations to market the Career Center and coordinate career presentations and informational sessions 
• Build and maintain relationships and collaborate with faculty, staff, alumni and employers to provide targeted programming and messaging to students 

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree and 2-3 years of related professional experience including: career/academic advising in a higher education setting 
• Strong career advising, program management and writing skills; Proven presentation skills and comfort level in dealing with the business, public sector and academic communities as well as a diverse population of students, alumni, faculty, parents and employers; Knowledge of national trends in career services, the job market, and diverse student populations 
• Ability to market Tufts students and establish relationships with employers 
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills 
• Experience with coordinating events 
• A demonstrated understanding and commitment to building an inclusive environment 
• Ability to supervise student assistants and interns 


Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or related field of study preferred 
• Ability to administer and interpret career assessments such as the MBTI and Strong Interest Inventories preferred
