Grinnell College’s Center for Careers, Life, and Service (CLS) is seeking a passionate, student-centered professional to join their growing team as the Assistant Director for Career Development and Internships. Reflective of the CLS’s integrated model of personal, professional, and civic development, this position serves an essential role in counseling, mentoring, and assisting students as they pursue career-related experience through internships. This individual will lead the internship program by working collaboratively with members of theCLS staff, college faculty and administration, alumni, and the various sites hosting Grinnell interns. The Assistant Director for Career Development and Internships will promote internships as an integral, valued element of the liberal arts learning experience as well as connect students with specific campus internship resources. In collaboration with and under the supervision of the Director of Career Counseling & Exploration, this professional will work strategically to elevate and enhance the College’s internship program through:

The successful candidate will possess a master’s degree in counseling, student personnel ad-ministration or related field or MBA and at least 3 years of experience in career counseling or advising within higher education or at an organization or business with an internship program. Preference given to those who can demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the selective liberal arts college ethos. Applicants should possess excellent advising and career counseling skills involving career and employment issues with ability to understand diverse students’ needs and concerns as well as understanding and knowledge of career development theory. Strong experience with aspects of the internship and job search preparation and application processes (including reviewing résumés and cover letters, conducting mock interviews, etc.) is also required for this position. This individual will need to demonstrate evidence of successfully developing and implementing projects and programs and the use of strong written and oral presentation and problem solving skills. A successful candidate should be successful in working both independently and as a member of a team and has the ability to establish productive collaborations students, staff, faculty, and alumni. Experience and proficiency with incorporating the use of technology to deliver career services is also desired.
