Reporting to the Associate Director of Employer Relations, the Assistant Director will manage Vassar's on-campus recruiting programs and steward relationships with employers who seek to hire Vassar students for both internship and entry-level roles. 

Position Summary and Responsibilities: 
The responsibilities of the Assistant Director of Employer Relations are as follows: 

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of Handshake, Vassar's career services management tool and job and internship database; research and review employer approvals and job/internship postings; report employer relations metrics 
  • Manage all aspects of the on-campus recruiting program, including scheduling employer information sessions and on-campus interviews; organize and ensure staffing for all employer information sessions 
  • Provide the highest level of customer service to prospective and current employers; debrief with employers about their experience hiring Vassar students to identify areas of growth and follow-up with employers to determine hiring outcomes 
  • Coordinate with the Administrative Fellow to maximize student awareness of opportunities to engage with employers and to promote specific opportunities to students 
  • Educate students about internship and employment opportunities and advise students on topics including resume, cover letter, and job search correspondence, internship and job search techniques, and interviewing 
  • Serve as the Vassar liaison to the Selective Liberal Arts Consortium (SLAC) in support of off-campus and virtual recruiting events 
  • Support the Associate Director of Employer Relations in efforts to increase alumnae/i hiring, plan and implement employer site visits and career treks, and steward and maintain relationships with employers


Bachelor's degree required. Preferred qualifications include a 1+ year(s) experience in recruiting, human resources, or career services. The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service and written and oral communication skills as well as strong organizational and project-management skills. Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Google Apps for Education, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and online career-related resources are highly desirable. Familiarity with career services management platforms such as Handshake preferred. Knowledge of OPT/CPT and hiring practices for international students is a plus. The department is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
