Purpose of Position

Macalester College invites applications and nominations for an Assistant Director of Employer Relations. The Assistant Director will build, execute and evaluate an annual employer relations and business development strategy to align with Macalester College’s strategic plan to drive the expansion of full-time employment opportunities for Macalester students.

Macalester’s Career Development Center is committed to helping students and alumni develop, understand and connect their liberal arts educational experience with their future goals. Career counselors guide undergraduates through major selection, career planning and search, and graduate school exploration and application. The Career Development Center offers a wide range of career development services to students, including resume and personal statement review, mock interviews, workshops, career assessments and access to employment opportunities.

The CDC strives to understand and support the individualized needs of the students and alumni it serves, recently earning Gold level certification by Out for Work, an organization that provides career resources and support to LGBT students.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Director will drive the development and expansion of full-time employment opportunities for Macalester College students and oversee all employer relations activities of the Career Development Center. The Assistant Director will maintain relationships with current employers and build, execute and evaluate an annual business development plan. The Assistant Director will supervise one Employer Relations Coordinator and lead the on-campus and off-campus recruitment processes.

Employer Relations 50%:
• Oversee the employer relations function, including employer information sessions and events, job postings and on-campus interviews

• Develop and implement recruiting policies, processes and procedures that ensure that employers and students receive effective, efficient and error free service

• Develop, execute and evaluate menu of connection opportunities; counsel employers on highest impact opportunities

• Partner with the Internship Program and Civic Engagement Center to appropriately serve employers, providing seamless customer service

• Manage the evaluative process for all recruiting functions, including on-going and year-end reporting of activity and employer/student satisfaction

• Work closely with CDC Communications Specialist to develop a strategy to communicate employer events, opportunities and information to Macalester students

• Develop and oversee employer relations budget

• Supervise one Employer Relations Coordinator

Relationship and New Business Development 35%:
• Develop, implement and evaluate annual business development plan to provide Macalester students with high quality post-graduation opportunities, both locally and nationally

• Interact directly with recruiters, alumni, parents and company representatives with a focus on identifying new opportunities

• Track business development efforts; maintain updated contacts in MC² (Macalester Career Connection, our CRM system)

• Work closely with CDC counselors, faculty, Entrepreneur in Residence to identify key student interest areas

• Work closely with Communications to develop employer-facing marketing materials focused on Macalester’s key differentiators

• Partner with the Internship Program office to identify internship to full-time pipeline opportunities

• Work closely with Alumni Relations to build and maintain robust alumni pipeline to engage organizations on-campus and provide contacts for student job search

• Participate and represent the CDC at conferences and events

Industry Events 15%:
• Work closely with academic departments, alumni relations/development and counselors to identify opportunities for industry connection; develop related events and programming

• Co-lead annual MacConnect trips and local site visits; co-develop new national and local MacConnect trips

• Serve as CDC point of contact (employer side) for the Minnesota Private College Fair

 

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred

• 3-5 years of work experience in relationship development, recruiting, higher education or related field

• Experience leading and managing an employer relations/business development/sales strategy

• Ability to build strong relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders and navigate complex organizational structures and employer relationships

• Strong oral and written communication skills

• Experience with a CRM or online recruiting system (Symplicity, GradLeaders, Handshake, etc.)

• Experience collecting and analyzing data; ability to utilize data to drive strategy and employer relations activities

• Achievement-oriented with a proven track record of results

• Cultural understanding and a deep appreciation of diversity

• Understanding of the unique employment needs of international students and young alumni, including a working knowledge of H-1B visa requirements

• Experience leading and managing a team preferred

• Experience working closely with the Twin Cities business, non-profit, government and/or entrepreneurial community preferred


• Understanding of the unique value of a liberal arts education preferred
