CONNECTICUT COLLEGE seeks an experienced Assistant Director of Sustainability to establish Connecticut College as a leader in distinct and innovative sustainability initiatives through careful stewardship of the College’s financial, physical, natural and human resources.  Reporting to the Vice President for Finance & Administration the Assistant Director will be working with a multitude of departments on campus to instill in students, faculty, and staff a dual understanding of and commitment to environmental responsibility and stewardship and social justice and human equity. 

In partnership and collaboration with the Faculty Director of Sustainability and the Sustainability Committee, the Assistant Director will craft and implement strategic priorities across campus and integrate those with the goals and strategic plan of the College.  S/he will work directly with all constituencies—students, staff, faculty and the outside community - to advance sustainability both on campus and within the greater New London community; support campus organizations related to sustainability and act as a liaison between the campus and outside sustainability organizations. 

In addition, the Assistant Director will research, propose, plan and provide implementation support for projects that conserve financial and natural resources while improving the learning, living, and working conditions of the campus community; advocate campus sustainability goals and objectives through the College’s governance structure including, but not limited to membership on various committee’s on campus; support the development and implementation of the College’s sustainability plan; direct the Sustainability Fellows Program including co-teaching up to 2 classes each academic year; administer the Office of Sustainability budget, including all associated grants, donations and endowment funds; serve as administrator for the New London County Food Policy Council and participate in other sustainability-related community activities and organizations.  S/he will identify state and federal programs that provide resources for accomplishing the College’s sustainability strategic priorities and collaborate with College Advancement staff to create proposals for funding sustainability projects; mentor student sustainability organizations and provide leadership training and supervise student employees, interns and volunteers working to advance sustainability on campus.

Hours Per Week: 37.5

Qualifications

Master’s degree and minimum of 4 years of experience with sustainability change management in higher education or other industry; excellent oral and written communications skills; proficient in using digital communication tools including websites and social media; excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact and maintain relationships with a variety of constituents from all aspects of the College and community.  Excellent project management/administrative skills and proven financial management and project management abilities needed.
