The incumbent will perform engineering duties related to environmental quality programs such as public drinking water protection; indoor air pollution, water or air pollution control; and evaluate hazardous waste sites and locations affected by pollution control initiatives for compliance. Specific duties will include: providing technical assistance to water systems, engineering consultants, and/or state and local agencies with respect to water system operational or regulatory issues or questions; providing guidance to local health departments and water systems on emergency response activities for boil-water or water contamination issues; assisting in the assessment and investigation of water systems, this may involve: conducting site visits, field investigations, inspections, water quality sampling events, and computer modeling; assisting in conducting field sampling events to identify contaminant problems at water systems and to document successful resolution of such problems; developing Review Comment Letters for water infrastructure projects to send to professional engineers hired by the municipalities; and assisting in developing guidance for various rules and regulations. Other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: 
Successful completion of a National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination and one year of experience under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer. 

Preferred Qualifications: 
Experience with the design aspects of public water systems. Working knowledge related to the NY State Environmental Quality Review Act. Ability to work independently and complete tasks with minimal supervision. Ability to work in a fast paced environment. Excellent communication skills along with the ability to provide presentations explaining engineering and programmatic details in layperson’s terms to local elected officials and other state and federal agencies. Excellent technical writing skills. Proficient in the advanced uses of Microsoft Excel, and generally proficient in using data management software.
