Under the supervision of a Research Scientist, the Assistant Research Scientist will contribute to a new laboratory area as part of the CDC's National Action Plan to detect and respond to antibiotic-resistant bacterial pathogens and prevent spread of resistant infections. This work will contribute to improved detection of resistant bacteria, and provide insight into infection control, investigations, and the burden of these bacterial infections. The Assistant Research Scientist will participate in clinical testing utilizing molecular methods including PCR, real-time PCR, DNA sequencing, and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. Additionally, the Assistant Research Scientist will manage specimens, utilize an information management system, provide results of testing and contribute to laboratory testing and data analysis for special studies.

Salary Min: USD $45,233.00/Yr.

Conditions of Employment Grant

funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required. Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position, the selected candidate may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment and may receive specific immunizations.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, medical technology, molecular biology or related field and one year of research experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for the one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

NYS Clinical Lab License. Experience in medical technology, molecular biology or microbiology, as well as performing MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, PCR, real-time PCR, and DNA sequencing on clinical specimens.
