The Career Development Office (CDO) at Vassar College invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Director of Alumnae/i Outreach and Partnerships. The primary responsibilities of this position are to develop, plan, and evaluate opportunities to connect alumnae/i, parents and other community partners with students in mutually rewarding ways. The Assistant/Associate Director will take leadership on the overall priority of increasing alumnae/i engagement in career development programs and services for students. 

The Assistant/Associate Director will also provide career counseling and education to a liberal arts population and advise students and alumnae/i through individual appointments, workshops, and programs. 

Responsibilities will include: 

  • Collaborating with colleagues both in the CDO and across campus (e.g., alumnae/i affairs and development, faculty, and students) to develop relationships with alumnae/i, parents, and other community partners 
  • Coordinating student engagement with Vassar's alumnae/i and parent mentors, professional networks, and Vassar Clubs 
  • Cultivating and managing opportunities for mentorship, internships, and post-graduate positions through small and large-scale programs and initiatives; collaborating with the Associate Director for Employer Relations to both solicit and respond to internship and job opportunities from alumnae/i and parents 
  • Planning and executing annual signature programs such as Sophomore Career Connections, Senior Week at the CDO (and others to be developed) that connect students with alumnae/i and parents throughout the year 
  • Serving as a liaison to academic departments, student groups, and other on-campus partners to identify, create and support career-related events and opportunities that align with mentor and student interest 
  • Developing and managing a system to ensure that alumnae/i and parent engagement with the CDO is systematically tracked, recorded, and analyzed 
  • Counseling students and alumnae/i on topics such as networking, interviewing, internship and job search, and graduate school planning in a wide range of career fields


  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in counseling, higher education administration, management, or a related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in career development, recruiting, alumnae/i affairs, fundraising, business development, external relations, or related field.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.

The ideal candidate will show a demonstrated interest in liberal arts issues and an appreciation for the value of a liberal arts education, as well as have strong organizational, outreach, presentation, and project management skills. Excellent computer skills required, including proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the Google suite of products. Experience with relationship management tools and career services management platforms is a plus. The department is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
