DESCRIPTION

The Associate Director of Academic Programs at Penn State’s Sustainability Institute (SI) integrates sustainability into and across the university’s curricular and co-curricular program by teaching, communicating, researching, and supporting sustainability education. This individual is a core staff member of Penn State’s Sustainability Institute reporting directly to the SI’s Director, and is responsible for supporting the SI’s strategy for advancing sustainability through academic means. The Associate Director’s duties balance curricular development and integration, teaching, and collaborative research and writing in their area of expertise. Primary responsibilities are: faculty development via the Penn’s Woods Fellows program, curation and development of the online Field Guide to Teaching Sustainability, coordination and development of public and co-curricular sustainability-themed events, and supporting the integration of sustainability across the university’s curriculum. Teaching duties include instructing Sustainability 200: Foundations of Leadership in Sustainability, in coordination with their affiliated department, preferably in education or the social sciences. Instruction includes working with graduate or undergraduate teaching assistants. This individual will collaborate with Penn State faculty and external researchers to conduct original interdisciplinary research on sustainability education theory and practice understood broadly. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Ph.D. or equivalent credentials consistent with a faculty appointment is preferred. The successful candidate will have strong leadership and communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to build partnerships.
