Benefits Assistant

The Office of Human Resources is searching for a full-time Personnel Assistant to work in the Benefits Unit under the direction of the Health Benefits Administrator.  The Benefits Unit administers a wide range of benefits for approximately 3500 employees and assists faculty, staff, and student employees in understanding these benefit programs.  The Personnel Assistant will be involved in general benefits administration, new faculty and staff orientation, and will also serve as the campus administrator for the Student Employee Health Plan (SEHP) and the tuition programs. All activities occur in a fast paced, deadline oriented, customer service environment, with emphasis on flexibility and teamwork. 

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications

  • Associate's degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • Experience working in a professional, administrative office setting
  • Experience working in a large volume, customer service oriented environment
  • Excellent oral, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Must be detail oriented and well organized
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Applicants must address their ability to work with a culturally diverse population in their application


Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • Professional, administrative human resources experience
  • Experience with NYS benefit programs
  • Experience with NYS databases, such as Payserv and NYBEAS
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Access and Publisher
  • Experience working in a union environment
  • Higher education experience
