The Business Intelligence (BI) Solution Specialist is responsible for providing support to UAlbany within the Reporting and Analytics Service. This position specifically supports the ever evolving UAlbany BI by capturing requirements, employing technical and functional skills, and experience, to build out a sustainable analytics platform. The BI Solution Specialist will ensure the reliability (security, integrity, maintainability, and availability) of this complex business critical system. This position will also be an integral part of Data Governance activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead configurator of UAlbany BI implementation and upgrade projects, using Kimball data warehouse design techniques, Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE), Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), and additional tools that support the ever expanding demand of analytics
  • Facilitate users and supporting team members by creating new BI solutions through the entire solution lifecycle, including requirements collection and definition:
    • Strategy > Design > Transition > Operation > Continuous Improvement
  • Build BI solutions to be consumed across the university-wide audience of decision makers, including:
    • Providing knowledge of data for analytics and business intelligence/data warehousing integration, understanding the business processes that input/use the data, what the data means and how it can be used/analyzed to provide evidence based decisions
    • Providing "How-to" training on the use of these applications within varying business processes and uses
  • Be the campus subject matter expert in UAlbany BI by being active in the vendor and user group communities inside and outside of the University, SUNY, & the market by presenting at and actively sharing information at conferences and meetings
  • Lead day-to-day applications support for the UAlbany BI, including quality control activities, data management, integration, and subject matter expertise to interested internal and external resources on functionality and integration
  • Manage a queue of service requests, incidents, and problems for UAlbany BI
  • Document and maintain the data processes and functional design of UAlbany BI to ensure alignment with requirements and continuous improvement
  • Participate in Data Governance activities to include documenting data, information, analytics, business rules, and data quality for UAlbany BI consumers

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • Minimum of 3 years of data modeling, data warehousing, data analytics, SQL, and ETL experience, providing services to a wide range of business customers
  • Minimum 2 years' experience with Oracle OBIEE 11g or 12c
  • Minimum 2 years' experience with Microsoft Office 365
  • Minimum 2 years' experience with Oracle SQL Developer or Toad
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; writing skills will be assessed by application materials submitted

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years' experience in:
    • Oracle 11g or 12c Database
    • OBIEE 11g or 12c RPD and Analytics/Dashboard development
    • BI Publisher
    • ODI 11g or 12c
    • SQL Developer
    • Microsoft Office 365
  • Experience with data visualizations and story telling
  • Experience in data governance including data classification, meta data and data quality
