Classification and Compensation Analyst

The primary responsibility of this position will be contributing to the development and maintenance of an updated classification and compensation program to ensure equity across campus in terms of title, grade and salary, and to ensure compliance with the Union contract.  Position also provides research data to support classification and compensation decisions, and assistance crafting thorough position descriptions and minimum qualifications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct classification reviews for reorganizations, manager/employee requests, recruitment
  • Review reclassification and promotion requests, ensuring compliance with Union contract
  • Develop mechanism to cross reference existing position classification attributes to ensure equity and to serve as a base for new position classifications
  • Develop campus title policies and procedures in line with job title classifications
  • Document all current job classifications (budget title, campus title, salary grade, FLSA designation)
  • Make FLSA exempt determinations
  • Conduct job audits, external class & comp data reviews, market research
  • Maintain campus reporting title hierarchy
  • Recruitment assistance as it pertains to job postings, minimum requirements, job offers

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or other discipline directly related to the position and three years of experience performing classification and compensation reviews; OR Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field and at least five years of experience as a Human Resources professional, including three years of experience performing classification and compensation reviews
  • General understanding of FLSA rules and regulations

  • Analytical skills; experience interpreting laws, policies, practices and procedures; experience conducting research, analyzing the data, and presenting the findings in a concise format for varied audiences

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; problem solving and negotiation skills; ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the University; ability to build a rapport with employees and managers in conducting job reviews; ability to revise and improve written job descriptions

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Proficiency in MS Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Experience using an HRIS system to enter and/or query data

  • Applicants must address in their applications their ability to work with a culturally diverse population

Preferred:

  • Experience designing/developing a class & comp system

  • Experience working in a union environment 

  • Human Resources experience in Higher Education

  • MS Access proficiency
