Job Description:

The College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity (CEHC) seeks a Director of Experiential Learning and External Partnerships. CEHC's mission is to supply meaningful and relevant applied learning opportunities to students in the fields of emergency preparedness, homeland security and cybersecurity and to engage leaders in these fields with its research and programming efforts. The Director of Experiential Learning and External Partnerships will be CEHC's primary liaison to external partners, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, private companies, and related entities. The Director will work with the faculty, staff, students, and external partners on a daily basis to provide unique active learning experiences for students and to apply classroom knowledge and understanding to real-world problems in research seminars, internships, and Senior Capstone Projects. The Director will represent the College when meeting with key stakeholders to negotiate critical partnerships that will support the College's mission. We seek individuals who are eager to formulate and strengthen partnerships with practitioners in the public, private, and non-profit sectors and leverage those partnerships to provide opportunities for students, faculty, and the College as a whole. The individual will be expected to work as part of the College's team to help ensure the intellectual development of students and to assist in their transition to the workforce. He or she will also maintain consistent communication with external partners in formal and informal capacities to understand the evolving workforce and research needs and how the College can meet those needs.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Represent the College in meetings with external stakeholders to discuss and negotiate the development of programs and partnerships to support the mission of the College
  • Work independently and in coordination with the Dean and Assistant Dean to identify, secure, and carry out opportunities for internships, research partnerships, student opportunities, etc.
  • Identify potential opportunities for fundraising and development, including conference co-sponsorships, research funding, and scholarship opportunities
  • Develop and draft MoUs with external partners regarding details of collaboration and partnerships
  • Act independently to find solutions to any challenges or difficulties that may arise with external stakeholders to ensure productive and positive relationships
  • Using knowledge of the priorities of external partners and other employers in the field, work with the Director of Student Services to offer professional development assistance, place students in appropriate internships, and place in jobs after graduation
  • Track and manage information regarding post-graduation placements and prepare reports for review by College and University leadership
  • Work closely with external partners to develop and carry out Senior Capstone Projects, in which students will work with an external partner to identify a problem that needs to be solved, design a solution and implementation plan, and present the results to the external partner for feedback and evaluation
  • Identify potential members for the External Advisory Committee, develop and maintain membership, and organize the annual Setting the Agenda external partners meeting
  • Draft and disseminate the external partners update newsletter twice per year
  • Plan and administer the Semester in Washington, DC and Semester in New York City Programs, including the development and management of program budgets, logistics, internship site development, and arrangements for academic course work
  • Administer electronic data systems (Handshake) used to manage data on internship opportunities and placements
  • Coordinate and lead internship courses which encourage positive learning outcomes for students involved in an internship
  • Work closely with the Director of Student Services and with potential employers to plan and execute effective recruitment events and career development trips
  • Prepare evaluation reports from students and internship hosts to assess the quality of the program and identify and implement opportunities for improvement
  • May supervise work study students and interns as they are available and assigned to the Director

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • Minimum of five years of experience in higher education or professional administration, or experience generating and developing external partnerships, or experience in a similar position
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively and build professional relationships with colleagues and constituents in a diverse community
  • Demonstrated knowledge of internships and career services
  • Ability to coach students in essential career preparation skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to plan and manage short and long-term projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to set priorities and be self-motivated
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
