Director of Career Planning

The Sage Colleges

Position:  The Director of Career Planning is a full-time 12 month position reporting to

The Vice President for Student Life.  The Director of Career Planning is responsible for

the overall operation of the Department of Career Planning. 

Duties:  The position includes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Career Planning Centers on the Albany and Troy campuses.  Supervise the work of two Assistant Directors and two support staff.  Responsible to the Vice President for Student Life, the duties of the Director include, but are not limited to the following:

·       Management, supervision, and evaluation of the staff, budget, strategic plan, and assessment practices

·       Development and implementation of a strong model/program for graduate assistants and student workers in the Center

  • Development and implementation of a plan to cultivate and maintain employer relations including increasing contact with hiring managers, development of outreach strategies and marketing campaigns to bring awareness to TSC, its  students and alums
  • Represent TSC at community functions, chamber events, and professional meetings
  • Develop and implement with Assistant Directors a 4 year career model for undergraduate students
  • Work with Academic Deans and faculty to integrate Career Planning into the general education program
  • Offer a variety of in-class presentations relevant to various academic disciplines
  • Oversee TSC’s Internship Programs (supporting current and facilitating new internship sites)
  • Oversee the Community Work Study program
  • Oversee and assess all day to day career planning functions including but not limited  to resume, cover letter, mock interviews, job search, portfolios, graduate school search, job fairs, outreach networking, and professional development
  • Work with the office of  Advancement/Alumni/ae affairs to cultivate and maintain relationships with Alums who can serve as mentors/networks for students
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Life

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Student Personnel or related field
  • 5 years of direct Career Planning experience or related Higher Education experience
  • Strong technology skills including the use of social media
  • Proven ability to work with diverse population
  • Strong background in Career Development, Student Outcomes Planning and Assessment, knowledge of appropriate technology tools and how to use them, and the proven ability to work with diverse populations.
