Who We Are

SAGA Innovations, Inc. ( is a growing non-profit that provides underserved middle and high school students with high quality math tutoring during their school day, at no cost to them or their families.  We are able to provide this high-dosage service because of the passion and commitment of SAGA Fellows – full-time math tutors who devote a year of their lives to closing the achievement and opportunity gaps and impacting the lives of their students every day.  We currently serve around 2,500 students in Chicago and New York City.

Position Summary

The Director of Fellow Recruitment is responsible for overseeing the recruitment and selection of SAGA Fellows. This person will develop and implement a comprehensive nationwide recruitment strategy to meet SAGA’s ambitious expansion plans.


Talent Management (30%)

  • Coach and manage a highly successful, multi-region recruitment team that is dedicated to delivering a world-class candidate experience to every prospect and applicant.
  • Facilitate recruitment staff development by evaluating individual and team performance and identifying opportunities for growth and skill strengthening.

Fellow Recruitment & Selection (45%)

  • Create and execute a comprehensive national recruitment strategy to identify, recruit, select, and matriculate a diverse cohort of SAGA Fellows.
  • Cultivate relationships with colleges and universities, community partners, non-profit organizations, and more to build a long-term pipeline of Fellow candidates.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with other organizations to share innovative recruitment strategies and source for talent.
  • Manage all aspects of the Fellow selection process, including position advertisement, resume review, phone interviews, onsite interviews, and offer decisions.
  • Use data to evaluate and refine SAGA's approach to cultivating and selecting candidates, including quarterly evaluative and progress meetings with recruitment staff and the VP of Communications and Talent.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Staff Recruitment to develop a recruitment strategy, including job posting optimization, digital and non-digital employment marketing, etc.

Alumni Relations (25%)

  • Plan and implement programs and initiatives that strategically engage alumni to foster closer relationships with the SAGA brand.
  • Secure competitive post-SAGA opportunities for Fellows from employers and graduate programs, including but not limited to, employment opportunities, networking opportunities, professional development, scholarships.
  • Ensure accurate and complete alumni database records; capture contact, biographical and career information of alumni via surveys, projects (e.g. alumni directory), and regularly scheduled alumni outreach campaigns.


As a prerequisite, the successful candidate must embrace the key values of the organization and be compelled by SAGA’s mission. Other qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Belief that every student, in every circumstance, can achieve the highest levels of academic excellence and a passionate commitment to SAGA Innovations' mission and vision.
  • At least five years of experience in designing, developing, and implementing talent acquisition initiatives at a national organization.
  • Demonstrated success with high-volume sourcing, particularly with service-year hiring.
  • Deep intellectual curiosity and rigor; appreciation for research and data and commitment to using it to inform thinking and strategy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence and build strong relationships to enhance work practices and support the achievement of goals.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial work environment and the capacity to remain calm and focused when faced with unexpected challenges.
  • Advanced experience with Applicant Tracking Systems required – iCIMS and/or Salesforce platform strongly preferred.
  • An obsessive attention to detail and exceptional organization and time management skills.
  • Willingness to travel extensively to meet Fellow recruitment goals.
