Job Description:

The University at Albany is seeking a candidate for a full-time Educational Opportunities Program (EOP) counselor position. This individual will report to the EOP Director and is responsible for personal and academic counseling to EOP students. The EOP Program is an access and retention support system for a group of non-admissible and low income admits. The candidate must possess high energy and take an active role in encouraging EOP students to take full advantage of institutional academic support services as well as EOP services.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist students in academic planning related to the students' abilities and interests
  • Convey and interpret the University's academic rules and regulations, academic prerequisites, programs, majors, minors, general education requirements and courses of study; advising them on courses to take, specifically their first two years of Undergraduate Studies 
  • Work directly with faculty in various schools or departments to enhance the advisement process
  • Refer student to related offices (Psychological Counseling, Career Planning, etc.) as appropriate
  • Responsible for personal and academic counseling to EOP students
  • The successful candidate also facilitates both study skills workshops and a study skills course.



Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work or a related area from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • Minimum of one to two years' experience working effectively with a diverse pool of economically and educationally disadvantaged; primarily first generation urban students in a college/higher education environment
