Position Summary

Facilities Management at the University of Arizona is looking for a qualified Energy Manager to develop and deliver energy reduction programs and projects. The successful candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of industry standards and best practices along with the ability to work collaboratively within the University and with our business partners to create effective programs. The ideal candidate will preferably have an advanced degree in a related field as well as knowledgeable about strategies for improving utility usage energy and concepts related to high-performing buildings, and proven expertise in organizing, analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating relevant data.

Note: All maintenance employees are required to drive University vehicles on a daily basis as one of their primary job functions.

Duties & Responsibilities

Energy benchmarking
• Monitor and verify energy (and water) flows
• Collect and document energy (and water) use information 
• Identify energy (and water) peers for benchmarking 
• Participate in energy benchmarking groups
• Conduct or arrangement energy audits, surveys, perform tests and investigations
• Collect weather statistics, and other measurable variable factors which affect energy consumption
• Compare data for benchmarking purposes
• Analyze energy consumption histories on a regular basis to detect exceptions

Goal and Priority Setting
• Determine the savings potential and maintain a register of energy savings opportunities/projects
• Assist with the preparation of energy budgets

Sustainability
• Develop and foster collaborative relationships with The University of Arizona’s Office of Sustainability, Students for Sustainability, Compost Cats and other stakeholders

Scout for new technologies and best practices
• Identify and develop carbon footprint reduction initiatives
• Seek out state/federal incentives for energy efficiency/renewable projects
• Seek out and submit applications for energy recognition awards

Create schedules for energy reduction activities/projects and identified milestones
• Manage air handler scheduling
• Participate in building automation improvements designed to improve energy performance
• Verify improvements, monitor progress, calculates ROIs, measure and verify savings achieved

Develop and deliver energy reduction training and communication
• Develop target information for key audiences about our energy management program to gain support at all levels of our organization for energy reduction initiative and goals
• Participate / Prepare Greenhouse Gas report and other reports as required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Eight years of experience in energy management; OR, a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and four years experience in the industry; OR, an Associates degree in a related field and six years experience in the industry.
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree 
CEM – Certified energy manager 
CDSM Certified demand side manager 
BEAP – Building Energy Assessment Professional Certification
BEMP – Building Energy Modeling Professional Certification
OPMP – Operations and Performance Management Professional Certification
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
