Entry Level Structural Engineer

CHA Consulting, Inc. is currently seeking an Entry Level Structural Engineer based out of our Albany, NY office. The candidate will alternate between reporting to Rockland County, NY at a client site (for a contract term of 1 year at a time) and our Albany, NY office to work on utility projects in between.

Job Requirements

  • Design in the fields of transmission, distribution & substation engineering.

  • Perform structural analysis and foundation analysis of steel and wood transmission and substation structures.

  • Utilize design knowledge and experience with various materials including, but not limited to: concrete, steel, and wood.

  • Work on small to medium sized utility projects while being mentored by senior engineer staff.

  • Work as a member of a design team on large structural projects and utility projects.

  • Coordinate with drafters and designers to develop contract drawings.

  • Perform project and construction administration tasks:

    • Editing specifications, attending project meetings, reviewing shop drawings, preparing cost estimates, writing reports, etc.

  • Travel to site on an as-needed basis, including day trips and overnight stays, as projects require.

  • During the one-year on-site contract term, the candidate will have four-night stays in order to report to the client office during the full work week.


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering Management, Structural Engineering or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural Engineering concentration required.

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering is preferred.

  • EIT is preferred.

  • 0-4 years of relevant experience: civil, structural, or geotechnical design experience for utility, industrial, municipal, commercial, and/or institution facilities.

  • Special consideration will be given to candidates that have experience in Civil Site engineering duties such as: site grading, shoreline restoration and shoreline protection.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite is required.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and PLS CAD are preferred.

  • Experience with Transmission is preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Valid U.S. Drivers License is required.
