The Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the Institute of Nonprofit Leadership and Community Development's (INLCD's) programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. She or he will develop deep knowledge of core programs, operations, and business plans in order to design, deploy, and evaluate programs and mission delivery.  The position will report to the Dean of Rockefeller College and will work closely with the INLCD Steering Committee, comprised of representatives of the deans of the five member schools: Albany Law School, Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, the School of Business, the School of Public Health, and the School of Social Welfare at the University of Albany.  The position is part-time (approximately 20 hours a week), is located at Rockefeller College, and has been funded for two years; further years of funding are possible with successful revenue development at INLCD.  Salary is commensurate with experience and benefits are available.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Management:

  • Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve INLCD's strategic goals
  • Manage undergraduate and/or graduate student workers for INLCD
  • Actively engage and energize INLCD volunteers, committee members, participants, partnering organizations, and funders
  • Develop, maintain, and support a strong Steering Committee and External Advisory Committee
  • Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents

Fundraising & Communications:

  • Expand local revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and expansion
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand
  • Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities

Planning & New Business:

  • Update and implement the strategic business planning process for the program expansion
  • Begin to build partnerships in new markets, establishing relationships with the funders, and political and community leaders
  • Be an external, local and national presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the successes of the local program as a model for regional and national replication

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized organization
  • Five years of experience with or in the non-profit sector
  • Past success working with a board of directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
  • Experience with marketing and fundraising
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to plan and implement large projects
  • The Executive Director will be thoroughly committed to INLCD's mission.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate certificate or degree in a related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized organization
  • Experience working with or in an institution of higher education
  • Managerial and leadership experience in the non-profit sector
