The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) delivers world-class geospatial intelligence that provides a decisive advantage to policymakers, warfighters, intelligence professionals and first responders. Anyone who sails a U.S. ship, flies a U.S. aircraft, makes national policy decisions, fights wars, locates targets, responds to natural disasters, or even navigates with a cellphone relies on NGA. NGA enables all of these critical actions and shapes decisions that impact our world through the indispensable discipline of geospatial intelligence (GEOINT). 

Position Description

Geospatial Analyst (Geodetic Orbit Sciences) analyze the Earth's gravity and magnetic fields, geophysical structure, material properties, and dynamics for geospatial intelligence and Department of Defense (DoD) applications. They define and maintain the World Geodetic System (WGS), perform datum transformations between WGS84 and local datums, and develop spatial and temporal models defining Earth systems. They provide in-depth technical expertise on Geodetic and geophysical issues to internal and external customers and represent NGA in external community forums establishing DoD and Intelligence Community (IC) doctrine and policy.

Salary Range

Band 02: $40,082 - $76,498
Band 03: $59,318 - $119,794

 

Qualifications

Mandatory Qualifications

1. Experience in communicating with customers in writing, orally or in sign language.
2. Experience in briefing or orally presenting or through sign language, to internal and external partners.
3. Experience in applying knowledge of technical / non-technical writing practices to include organization of ideas and an active voice style.
4. Experience in managing multiple competing priorities in an environment where timelines frequently change.
5. Experience in making timely, quality decisions as well as dealing with ambiguity and manage purpose.

Desired Qualifications

1. Experience with satellite behavior or operations.
2. Performing scientific analysis, computer networking and statistical analysis.
3. Learning new technology as well as applying knowledge of NGA security policies and procedures.
4. Applying knowledge of NGA products and services.
5. Computer system background in MS Windows office applications, UNIX, UNIX scripting, FORTRAN, C, C++, UML, STK, MATLAB or MATHEMATICA.
6. Experience with computer and operating systems, computer networking or database management.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: A. Education: Bachelor's degree in Geodesy, Mathematics, Physical Science, or a related discipline that includes at least 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework in any combination of Astronomy, Cartography, Computer Science, Engineering Science, Geodesy, Geology, Geomatics, Geophysics, Mathematics, Meteorology, Orbital Mechanics, Photogrammetry, Physical Science, Physics, Remote Sensing, or Surveying. Coursework must include differential equations and integral calculus. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: A minimum of 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework in any area listed in option A plus experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work. As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of college work is equivalent to one year of experience. Candidates should show that their combination of education and experience totals 4 years. -OR- C. Experience: Six years of experience in conducting work related to satellite operations, GPS surveying, Geodesy, Geophysics, or Wide Area Network analysis.
