Job Developer

Location: Career & Technical Educational Center - Albany

Basic Function: This work involves responsibility for researching and developing employment and training opportunities with local businesses for high school students living within the area served by the capital region Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES). The Job Developer refers students to job openings or training opportunities after discussing with them their interests, abilities, experience and education. The employee reports directly to and works under general supervision of a BOCES supervisor. Supervision of student activity is required. Does related work as required.

Responsibilities:

 Contacts local businesses to obtain job vacancy information for BOCES students;

 Works with local employers to discuss and develop training opportunities;

 Meets with students prior to placement to discuss interests, abilities, experience and education;

 Informs and counsels students about job and training opportunities;

 Acts as liaison between employers and program participants and directly supervises students;

 Evaluates participants’ performance at work site or through conferences with work-site supervisors;

Composes correspondence, memoranda and reports as necessary;

 Maintains related files and records.

 Good knowledge of interviewing techniques;

 Good knowledge of local labor market employment opportunities;

 Good knowledge of employment needs and required skills;

 Good knowledge of job training opportunities and procedures for referring applicants;

 Ability to prepare reports and correspondence;

 Ability to work as a team member;

 Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships;

 Ability to follow up on placed students and resolve problems;

 Ability to work with and supervise students;

 Initiative;

Qualifications

A. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Human Services or a closely related field; OR, B. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s Degree in Human Resources, Human Services or a closely related field and two (2) years of experience in employment interviewing or counseling, or other experience responsible for recruitment, selection, or training.

C. Currently enrolled in an Associate’s Degree program at a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a minimum of twenty-five (25) credit hours in Human Resources, Human Services or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience in employment interviewing or counseling, or other experience responsible for recruitment, selection, or training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License at time of appointment. License must be maintained throughout employment.

Vacancies are filled by certified list provided by Albany County Civil Service. Should no certified list be available, candidates appointed to this position will be serving in a provisional appointment in accordance with New York State Civil Service Law. The candidate must successfully complete a competitive examination and be eligible for appointment in accordance with Civil Service Law and the Civil Service Rules for Albany County to obtain a permanent appointment.
