Journalism Program, Assistant or Associate Professor

The Journalism Program in the Department of Communication at the University at Albany seeks to fill a tenured or tenure track position to begin Spring 2018 or Fall 2018. The Department of Communication has a distinctive commitment to public engagement, and awards Bachelor's degrees in Communication and in Journalism; and both Master's, and Doctoral degrees in Communication. The Journalism Program has strengths in investigative and public affairs reporting, ethics, digital media, and history of communication. The potential exists for this hire to teach courses that would be cross-listed between the Department's undergraduate degree programs in communication studies and journalism, and to contribute to graduate level programs, depending on expertise and fit with the Department's programs. Experience with online teaching is desirable.

Applicants should share a commitment to the University's strategic values for engaged learning and societal responsibility, and to its goal for increasing levels of external funding.

Qualifications:

Senior applicants should possess an established record of productive research and publication, a record of excellence in teaching, and willingness to contribute to the administration and leadership of the Program; junior applicants should demonstrate the potential for productive research and publication and some evidence of teaching effectiveness. Preference will be given to candidates who have professional experience in journalism and wide knowledge of the profession, including multimedia platforms and digital technology.

Applicants should address in their applications their ability to work with and instruct a culturally diverse population. A Ph.D. or other terminal degree is preferred, but candidates presenting a Master's degree and distinguished professional experience are also encouraged to apply.

Professional Rank and Salary Range: Assistant or Associate Professor; Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
