We are looking for someone with a strong desire to work in a fast-paced environment, continually learning new things and developing state-of-the-art technologies in support of the DoD and American Warfighter. The primary purpose of this position is to support researchers with the synthesis or fabrication of material samples, set-up and running of repetitive experiments, compilation and analysis of data and other related laboratory support functions. This is an entry level position in which all specific skills will be taught to the applicant. The applicant will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team and will be expected to work independently at the conclusion of training. THIS POSITION IS A 3 YEAR TERM POSITION.

Skills to be acquired during term of employment:
• Maintains detailed laboratory notebook daily
• Performs research functions efficiently and independently
• Maintains characterization instrumentation, chemical reaction systems, mechanical equipment, and other test instrumentation by installing; operating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions
• Analyzes data and prepares tables, figures and/or charts in Microsoft Excel and/or SigmaPlot
• Writes technical memoranda detailing experimental set-up, plans, data and results
• Enhances and increases technical knowledge by reviewing professional publications
• Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
• Quickly learn new skills, and learn and adhere to lab and explosives safety standards
• Appropriately uses personal protective equipment, including respirator and conductive shoes
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results in a timely manner, effectively communicating with team members regularly, participating in group and project meetings

Minimum Qualifications

•High school degree or equivalent
•Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
•Due to the nature of the position, US Citizenship is required
•Ability to obtain a Secret level security clearance within 1 year

Preferred Qualifications

• Associates degree in either a physical science, engineering or other related field
• Proficient with SigmaPlot software
• Completed the following college-level courses:
o At least 2 general chemistry laboratory courses with a final grade of at least a B (General Chemistry I/II)
o At least 2 other chemistry/ mechanics courses with a final grade of at least a B (includes Organic Chemistry I/II, Physical Chemistry I/II, Analytical Chemistry, Quantitative Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry I/II, Mechanics of Materials, Fluid Mechanics, Elements of Thermodynamics, Dynamics)
o At least 2 advanced math classes with a final grade of at least a B (includes Calculus I/II/III, Differential Equations and Linear Algebra)
o At least 1 thermodynamics/ physics/ electronics course (Elements of Thermodynamics, Physical Chemistry I/II, College Physics I/II, Electrical Basics)
o A minimum of 5 laboratory containing courses
