Fortress Biotech, Inc. (“Fortress”), a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to acquiring, developing and commercializing novel pharmaceutical and biotechnology products is seeking a Legal Assistant to support its legal affairs.  The Legal Assistant position researches law, investigates facts, and prepares documents/agreements to assist the in-house corporate counsel by performing a variety of support duties including transactional support as a contract specialist to a variety of internal clients

Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential functions of the role are below, but not limited to:

 Prepare, maintain and revise process guides and procedures (e.g., contract request, contract processing workflow)

  • Draft a range of commercial contracts within guidelines provided by in-house and external attorneys, on a variety of matters including confidentiality, consulting and stock award agreements for review, approval, and use by corporate counsel

  • Prepare other documents such as board minutes, summaries, memos, briefs, initial and amended articles of incorporation, stock certificates and other securities, closing papers and binders for review, approval, and use by corporate counsel

  • Proactively follow up with internal clients, attorneys and external parties from the time a contracting request is received through resolution/execution to ensure shortest cycle times

  • Resolve internal client requests in a professional and timely manner, escalating as necessary

  • Understand and comply with all relevant procedures and policies.

  • Perform other clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, providing information to callers, composing and typing routine correspondence, and spearheading internal document retention policies

  • Files correspondence and legal documents in office filing system.

  • Ensures proper indexing and filing of original legal documents.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full time position in NYC.

Travel will not be required.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree required – entry level position (preferably with a degree in English, History or humanities).

Must be able to work independently and complete projects with limited supervision, as well as to work as a member of a team.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are required.
