SEEKING A MECHANICAL ENGINEER Prototyping, design, and product development disciplines Position Overview: The Mechanical Engineer will have core responsibilities of designing and prototyping new products and making improvements to existing lighting products. Additional responsibilities will include design and delivery of physical systems including but not limited to production equipment, demonstration and test equipment, and New Product Introduction test parameters and equipment.The Mechanical Engineer will participate in design, execution and management of internal prototyping, testing, and certifications management (UL) will be required.
The Mechanical Engineer should be capable from moving to concept to pre-manufacturing prototype while managing documentation, testing, schedules, and cost projections of their respective projects and activities.
Create 2D and 3D models, detailed drawings, BOMs, and design documentation of sheet metal, plastics, optics, and additional hardware parts.
Fabricate or source model prototypes, test jigs, and pre-production models.
Source and assess off-shore or domestic manufacturing partners to aid in product design efforts.
Develop and execute well-rounded test plans to validate new product and revised design robustness.
Identify and source materials, components sub-assemblies, and manufacturing methods
Design and evaluation of products, parts, or processes for cost efficiency and reliability.
Assist in troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis for product enhancement and ongoing production
Recommend design and/or material improvements for existing products.
Participate in pilot and pre-production runs for product launches.
Incorporate design for manufacturability, Lean concepts, and Six Sigma tools to ensure high quality product design and innovation.
Education and Work Experience requirements:
Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, industrial design, or similar field with 2+ years professional experience
Masters in Mechanical Engineering, industrial design, or similar field with 1+ years professional experience
3D and 2D CAD experience
Ideal candidate experience:
Sheet metal or plastics design experience, optical and thermal design are a plus
Experience with lighting products, specifically LED based
Experience with high volume manufacturing and low volume, high mix manufacturing experience is a plus.
This is a full-time salaried position. Office house are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. Compensation based on experience beginning at $60,000.
